MLK Day of Service

The aim of MLK Day of Service is to make the holiday a day ON, where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers, and move our nation closer to the "Beloved Community" that Dr. King envisioned.

The observance of MLK Day at ODU has expanded to include several events.  See below for more information and how to register for each.

January 19, 8am-2pm, Hampton/Newport News Room:  TRUST Servant Leadership Conference

A new initiative this year, T.R.U.S.T., Inc's Servant Leadership Conference will be a life changing experience that will be full of empowerment, inspiration, and self discovery.  Participants will be provided with knowledge, tips, and tools to successfully lead their communities through servant leadership.  Participants will leave with a sense of purpose, strength, and encouragement to "Just Serve!"  This event is hosted by T.R.U.S.T. and the Center for Service and Civic Engagement.  To register, please visit www.tructincslc.eventbrite.com

January 20, 6pm, North Cafe:  America's Sunday Supper

The 2nd Annual America's Sunday Supper at ODU will expolore Dr. King's vision of a reality that did not allow poverty, hunger, or homelessness.  Join us for a panel discussion and supper.  This event is hosted by the Virginia Beach Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and is sponsored by TowneBank.  Please RSVP by calling Maerine Mitchell at 757-339-9181 or emailing maerine.mitchell@gmail.com

January 21, 11am, North Cafe:  MLK Day of Service

 "Anyone can be great, because anyone can serve" -MLK, JR 

Join us for our 7th annual day of service in honor of Dr. King at 11am .  We start with a remembrance ceremony, followed by a community clean-up and close with lunch and community projects at Lambert's Point Community Center.   This event is co-sponsored by the Nu Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  To register, please click here.

January 22, 7pm, Ted Constant Convocation Center:  MLK Keynote:  Dr. Kirk T. Houston, Sr.
